Celia Martínez Duro - Traductora

Hi! My name is Celia Martínez Duro and I am a translator copywriter

My passion for reading started in my childhood, when my grandmother sat in a recliner every night and I saw how she buried herself in any book she managed to find — even mine! When I turned ten, my mother took me to a library for the first time, and I fell madly in love with literature. Overtime, that love has become my job.

I studied a BA in Translation and Interpreting at the University of Málaga, the city where I grew up. Later on, I specialized with an MA in Creative and Humanistic Translation (University of Valencia) and an Expert Degree in Video Game Translation (ISTRAD). Moreover, I have taken several courses about marketing and comic translation, computer-assisted translation or CAT tools and productivity.

I translate from English (in its many different varieties) into Spanish, my mother tongue. To ensure my translations sound natural and use the same tone of the source language, I read and watch content in both languages. This helps me learn new vocabulary, discover different accents and recognize cultural references. I am a junior member of ACE Traductores, the Spanish association for editorial translators. Thanks to the organization and my fellow colleagues, I can be up to date on all language news.

I currently live in Barcelona, where I share an office with my cat, Chai. She reminds me when I have to take a break and get up from my desk to play with her. The rest of the time, she stays by my side while I type and sing to myself, searching for the perfect word.

Why “Aún por traducir”? The catchphrase I use means “Yet to translate” or “Still not translated”. Although Spanish is one of the languages with more speakers in the world, the majority of specialized information is published in English. I strongly believe that culture and knowledge should be accessible for everyone, so we all have the same opportunities. Therefore, the best books, films and series are yet to be translated.
